Retirement villages 'not suitable for all'
Older people considering their lifestyle options in the coming years should be aware that retirement villages are not necessarily the right solution for them.
According to Age Concern, there are a number of pros and cons to investing in such areas.
For instance, amenities suitable to the retiree's lifestyle may well be available - but "valuable contact" with younger people can be sacrificed and homeowners might find themselves more frequently targeted by "bogus callers".
With regards to help with finance, a spokesperson for the charity observes: "The cost of living in these villages, including additional service charges, can also mean they are not an affordable option for everyone.
"The best retirement villages are probably the ones that offer a variety of ownership and renting options and integrate themselves with the wider community."
