Preparation 'is top of the tree this Christmas'
The nation's men are preparing to break the habits of a lifetime this year by purchasing presents in advance of the dying hours of Christmas Eve.
So claims personal finance firm American Express, which has published research revealing that more than four out of five (82 per cent) of men plan to have all of their festive buying completed by December 14th - leaving only the wrapping and trimmings to be undertaken in the remaining 11 days.
Meanwhile, almost three in five (58 per cent) women expect to have the majority of their shopping done with by the end of November, leaving more than three weeks to invest in little extras.
However, it would appear that both groups are looking beyond the high street for help with money this yuletide.
Tom Allder, vice-president of UK lending at American Express, said: "Our research shows that 90 per cent of people are planning to do some of their Christmas shopping online this year, although store shopping still dominates overall.
"This could explain why most men are getting their yuletide shopping in the bag so early, so that they can be sure their online gifts arrive in time."
In related money news, price comparisons firm uSwitch has suggested that online spending could be set to quadruple over the next decade to hit £162 billion.
