Kitchens and bathrooms 'make a difference to price'
Anyone hoping to sell their home in the coming months should focus on renovating their kitchens and bathrooms in order to increase value, according to one industry money news provider.
The National Home Improvement Council (NHIC) states that, location aside, these two rooms tend to have the largest impact on the sale value of a property.
And being on top of current trends, even if it means seeking help with loans, can make a significant difference to buyer offer prices.
Andrew Leech, technical consultant to the NHIC, remarks: "If you have the option to extend the size of your kitchen, by knocking a wall down within the house and making it larger, it is definitely a good thing to do and if you can do it and incorporate a dining area, this seems to be the right thing to do."
He added that the role of the kitchen is changing, with more people using it as a social rather than a functional area.
The finance news follows recent research from Nationwide building society that revealed bedrooms and bathrooms, when fitted out properly, can add more than five per cent to the value of a home.
