Homeowners 'should check home condition before winter'
British homeowners have been advised to check the condition of their properties before winter descends and to take steps to prevent any potentially expensive damage.
While millions of British people are dealing with personal finance problems and in need of debt advice, millions more have seen their property assets grow in value and these ought to be taken better care of, according to Sainsbury's Bank.
In fact, the financial services firm suggests that British homeowners should have the condition of their properties assessed regularly in much the same way as car owners give their vehicles an MOT.
"Homeowners may not appreciate that failing to make repairs to their home, for example not replacing loose roof tiles could result claims either not being met or not paid in full," said Steve Johnson, head of Sainsbury's Home Insurance.
"With winter approaching, the risk to homes from bad weather increases, but there is a lot that home owners can do to reduce losses through the maintenance of their properties."
British homeowners could be risking thousands of pounds worth of property damage and trouble with debt by not preparing their houses properly for winter, a Cornhill Direct study concluded recently.
