Home condition reports 'would have made packs more useful'
Home information packs (Hips) containing home condition reports were of "far more interest" to homebuyers than energy performance certificates (EPCs) alone, it has been claimed.
According to industry organisation Hip Hip Hooray, the home condition report had potential to make the packs "more powerful".
Initial governmental plans suggested the inclusion of a home condition report to aid buyers' assessment of the property that they were investigating.
However, the item has since been removed from the legislation, while stipulations requiring an EPC remain.
Lesley Sorridimi, spokesperson for Hip Hip Hooray, said: "The EPC originally was going to be part of the home condition report.
"The home condition report was of far more interest to consumers than the EPC sitting on its own."
As of December 14th, all property put on the market in England and Wales must have commissioned a Hip.
