Forgotten accounts 'contain small but significant sums'
Consumers looking for help with money might wish to consider whether they have left any funds forgotten when moving house or changing lifestyle, it has been claimed.
According to personal finance services provider Halifax, it is easy for consumers to forget small sums of money left in accounts when experiencing changes in their lives.
Jason Clarke, spokesperson for the firm, comments: "Loss happens for a lot of different reasons. The majority of these accounts will have very little money in them - the overwhelming majority will have small amounts, £100 or less."
He added that the chances of forgetting an account increased with pass book-based products because the documentation often becomes mislaid.
The finance news follows figures from the British Bankers' Association that indicate that the number of people visiting its unclaimed assets page has increased to more than a quarter of a million.
Of these, 20,000 have made claims - three times the number doing so in 2006.
