Finance education 'should be provided throughout schooling'
Personal finance matters should be taught at every stage of the school curriculum, industry experts are arguing.
The Personal Finance Education Group (pfeg) has stated that only by addressing the potential for trouble with debt and helping young people in understanding money early on can the level of financial problems in the UK be reduced.
It is calling for such education to be formally recognised within the national curriculum and taught through all stages of education.
Alastair Mathews, director of policy at pfeg, said: "It is a good idea if education comes in stages and not having a feeling that if you cover it one week that that will be enough for the whole of a school career.
"It is something that should be included in each of the four main school stages."
In related money news, Credit Action has recently published statistics indicating that total consumer credit lending to individuals in September rose to £217 billion, increasing at an annual rate of 5.8 per cent.
