Eco-friendly features 'will increase in importance'
Having an environmentally-friendly home is likely to become an increasingly important factor for buyers, it has been claimed.
According to the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC), those looking to compare mortgages may discover that there are more products available for homes which are well insulated or have other energy-saving features.
The ease of getting a mortgage aside, buyers may also welcome the help with money supplied by reduced energy bills as a result of such changes.
Andrew Leech, technical consultant to the NHIC, said: "Anyone who has an inefficient house and is thinking of selling in a couple of years time maybe ought to think about whether their house is efficient; do they have the right size boiler, have they got an insulated loft, if they have cavity walls, do they have them insulated?"
While seeking help with loans, especially products with a low APR, may ease the process of installing such improvements, the increase in efficiency and added property value could also pay dividends.
In related finance news, one of the obligatory documents needed to sell any house with three or more bedrooms in the current marketplace, as part of the home information packs scheme, is an energy performance certificate.
