Christmas presents 'will increase home contents value'
The value of items in homes tends to increase over the Christmas period, but also in the time after the festive rush, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
Malcolm Tarling, spokesperson for the ABI, explains that at this time of year there is likely to be an increased number of gadgets such as iPods, digital televisions and camcorders in consumers' homes.
He expressed concern that such items are "things that are very easy to nick, things that are very easy to conceal and things that are very easy to sell on".
Mr Tarling adds that many policies already take into account the possibility of increased home contents in the months either side of the festive period, which may prevent consumers from running into trouble with debt should a burglary occur.
In related money news, a recent study by Liverpool Victoria suggested that nearly 15 million Britons put themselves at risk of burglary by leaving costly items on display in the windows of their homes.
