Building societies 'offer better service'
One reason to favour building societies over banks is the higher level of service on offer at the facilities, it has been claimed.
According to personal finance industry commentator the Building Societies Association (BSA), such institutions have set out to provide a competitive product alongside a good level of service.
The money news follows recent figures suggesting that increasing numbers of people are choosing to deposit money in building societies over banks in the wake of the recent Northern Rock crisis.
Neil Johnson, public relations and policy manager at the BSA, said: "Building societies are always towards the top [of the table] when it comes to offering the best savings products and mortgages."
Finance news following the Northern Rock bank run indicated that higher numbers were seeking help with money from building societies, often through savings accounts and cash individual savings accounts (Isas).
