Tips to avoid catalytic converter theft
A car insurance provider has issued tips to motorists to help them avoid losing their catalytic converter to thieves.
yes insurance was moved to act in the wake of a rising tide of theft of the devices, which are sought after by criminals because of the high levels of platinum they contain.
It is thought that stolen converters can be sold on for in the region of £120 each.
However, motorists who abide by some simple to follow safeguards can mitigate the chances of this crime befalling them, according to Paul Purdy of yesinsurance.
These include parking vehicles in a private garage wherever possible and in a well-lit street if more secure parking is not available.
Also recommended is keeping an eye out for motorists who appear to be carrying out maintenance work on a car.
Mr Purdy said: "Whilst car radios can be a popular target for criminals, catalytic converters now appear to be offering greater returns due to their high value and the fact that they are easily accessed."
