Teens to fuel ethical investment boom
Today's generation of teenagers are set to fuel huge growth in the ethical investment sector, a new study has suggested.
According to a survey conducted by UK Social Investment Forum (UKSIF), 82 per cent of teenagers said they intend to ensure that their investment capital does not go to companies which contravene ethical standards when they reach investment age.
Furthermore, 85 per cent of the sample said they feel have they have a responsibility to make sure that the companies in which they invest money do not act in a way that is damaging to the environment.
James Dalby, fund development manager at Norwich Union, said the findings suggest that a sea change in Britons' investment habits could be on the way, with ethical companies set to benefit.
He commented: "Teenagers represent a section of the population that is a vital part of the future - they will ‘lobby’ older generations on a whole range of social and environmental issues.
"This will certainly help to raise the profile of green and ethical investing."
