One in ten Brits 'has no home insurance cover'
Millions of UK homeowners are risking a severe financial blow by opting to go without home insurance, a new survey has revealed.
In a poll conducted by Sainsbury's Home Insurance, one in ten of those surveyed admitted to having no cover in the event of an accident.
This equates to 4.7 people if the survey's results are extended nationwide.
The study also revealed that the area with the highest proportion of households without home insurance is London, with 22 per cent - perhaps reflecting the higher living costs of residing in the capital.
Neil Laird, manager of Sainsbury's Home Insurance, said: "It's remarkable given the value of people's home contents that so many do not have cover. Home insurance does not have to be expensive.
"You can spread the cost over the course of a year and some insurers, including ourselves, will not charge for this. There are also some great discounts on cover available at the moment."
Sainsbury's Home Insurance is currently offering 12 months free cover for the price of nine when customers buy both home contents insurance and buildings insurance.
