NAPF: Employers must make pensions easier to understand
UK employers have been called on to make their pension schemes easier to understand for their staff to help them plan for their retirement.
In a poll conducted by the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) a company pension was considered the most important benefit an employer can offer their staff.
However, respondents to the same survey felt that their comprehension of such schemes is limited as a result of the often complicated terms in which they are couched.
In response to the findings, Mark Brooks of the NAPF, said that companies must address the problem by revamping the language used to relay pension scheme information.
He said: "Our research shows that two in five [40 per cent] of employees believe that employers do not do enough to explain the pension they offer.
"This is a wider issue and through positive, regular and jargon-free communication, the government and the pension industry need to work closer together to bolster and re-emphasise the value of a workplace pension."
