Millions of Brits prepared to lie to car insurer
Millions of Britons are prepared to lie to motor insurance providers to ensure their claim is not jeopardised, a new survey has revealed.
In a study conducted by moneysupermarket.com 33 per cent of those surveyed confessed that they would not tell their insurer if they had suffered a robbery as a result of their own failure to secure their vehicle.
Meanwhile, 36 per cent said they would tell their motor insurance provider the truth, while 31 per cent replied that they unsure how they would respond.
Richard Mason, director of insurance at moneysupermarket.com, warned anyone tempted to submit a fraudulent claim that the risks of being caught far outweigh the potential saving to be made in the short term.
He said: "You may think telling a little white lie, or holding back the whole truth is no cause for concern, but if your claim is as a result of your own wrong-doing, then insurers are likely to see it as fraudulent.
"I urge all drivers to tell the full truth, but even more importantly, secure their cars. Providers may well refuse to cover you in the future, if you are found out, scuppering your chances of driving altogether.".
