'Incredible choice' on offer for ethical investors
The ethical investment sector is now characterised by an "incredible amount of choice" for investors, an asset management firm has claimed.
According to head of group communications at F&C Asset Management Jason Hollands, prior to the boom in interest in ethical and green investment opportunities the only products available were equity funds.
However, since then a sea change has occurred and there is a wide range of investment types on offer, including ethical bonds, he said.
Mr Hollands said: "There’s a lot of choice in the market now, there’s estimated to be over 90 funds available to UK investors and that range of products has expanded exponentially in recent years.
"There are quite a number of specialist environmental funds that have been launched in recent years including a number of climate change-focused ones in the last year."
The growth of the ethical investment sector was born out by figures from the Ethical Investment Research Service (EIRIS) which showed that £8.9billion had been invested in Britain’s green and ethical retail funds by December 2007.
