Home insurer issues tips to avoid garden theft
The Cheshire Building Society has issued advice to homeowners to help them avoid failing prey to garden theft this summer and facing a hefty bill to replace stolen goods.
Top of the list of tips from the home insurance provider, is that homeowners ensure they have taken out adequate cover and locking all garage doors and outbuildings.
Also recommended is ensuring access to the garden is secure to prevent break ins and asking a family friend to keep a look out for any suspicious activity.
Finally, marking all valuable items with an identity tag can also help by improving the chance of recovering the items.
Karen Torson, partnerships business manager at Cheshire Building Society, said: "During the summer months there tends to be an increase in the number of garden thefts as people get their gardens into shape.
"Thieves will seize anything they can sell on including patio furniture, ornaments, electrical equipment such as lawnmowers and pressure washers and expensive plants and shrubs."
