Financial worries mounting for Britons
More and more Britons are worrying about their financial situation amid high-profile reports that an economic downturn is looming.
In a poll of over 2,000 adults conducted by PruProtection, 52 per cent of those questioned said that their financial situation is now their principal concern – even ahead of the well-being of their families.
This tide of concern is being fuelled by the current economic uncertainty, with 58 per cent of the sample saying they are worrying more now than had been before the gloom set in.
Also contributing to the fears being expressed is the fact that millions of Britons are significantly underinsured, with just 13 per cent holding mortgage payment protection insurance, payment protection insurance or accident, sickness and unemployment insurance (ASU).
Meanwhile, almost one in ten (nine per cent) have no insurance at all.
Sammy Rubin, chief executive officer of PruProtect, said: "There is obviously a gap between what issues we, as a society, are worrying about and what we're doing to alleviate these worries.
"Protecting ourselves in the event of changes to our personal circumstances can take a huge weight off our minds."
