Estate agents confidence hit by market uncertainty
House price falls are severely impacting on confidence levels among estate agents, a new survey has suggested.
In a poll conducted by PropertyFinder.com, just 42 per cent of estate agents said that they were more optimistic about the future of the market than they had been during March.
During the previous month, 51 per cent said they had felt more confident.
The news follows a report from Halifax showing that the price of an average home fell by 1.1 per cent during April.
Nicholas Leeming, director of the online property portal, said: "The April agents' confidence index shows confidence is still falling. What we are seeing is agents reacting to the negativity surrounding the property market currently.
"This is largely perpetuated by reports in the media and the difficulties that would-be buyers are having in securing mortgages.
"However, we hope to see improvements over the summer months as the Bank of England's initiatives help to improve the availability of mortgages."
