Brits urged to take immediate action over overdraft charges
Britons who have been hit by high overdraft charges should launch their bid to reclaim the money as soon as possible, a consumer group has warned.
Recently the Office of Fair Trading won the right to investigate whether overdraft fees are unfairly excessive - making consumers' chance of claiming back the fees more likely.
According to Marc Gander of the Consumer Action Group, rather than wait for the eventual outcome of the case, it is prudent to start their claim as soon as possible.
He said: "We're suggesting that people should get stuck in and start claiming straight away."
Mr Gander added that what keeps many consumers from pursuing such actions is the traditional British reserve and the mistaken notion that they are in some way responsible for the problems with their account.
Before court cases were suspended last year, the BBC reported that banks had refunded around £784 million to 378,000 customers who had been subjected to unduly high overdraft fees.
