Students targeted with tax information drive
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has teamed-up with the National Union of Students (NUS) to provide young people with information about the tax system.
Student Tax Aware Week, which started yesterday and runs until March 10th, will seek to make students aware of how the law applies.
As well as their responsibilities, the campaign will also flag up the various exemptions open to students who also work part-time.
"With three-quarters of students working it's vital they understand they have the same responsibilities as everyone else for their tax and national insurance," said Jane Frost, director of HMRC individual customer unit.
"This campaign will make dealing with tax easier for students, from National Insurance to tax refunds. Getting into good financial habits now will serve them well in the future."
The campaign will see leaflets distributed on university campuses, a tax calculator added to Facebook and information videos posted on YouTube.
