Storms spark 55% increase in home insurance queries
This week's extreme weather conditions have prompted the highest number of calls to Abbey Insurance since last summer's deluges, the company has announced.
Data from Abbey shows that since Monday's floods it has experienced a 55 per cent increase in calls from customers who have suffered damage from the storms.
With further storms expected this week, in response the home insurance provider has issued a series of tips which should be followed by those who fear they may at risk
These include storing a copy of insurance documents in a water tight container, ensuring the telephone number of the relevant provider is kept in a safe and accessible place.
Also recommended is being aware of how to turn off the water and electricity supply, keeping a torch to hand and storing essential phone numbers in a mobile phone in the event that telephone service is cut off.
The average claim total received by Abbey for damage from last summer's floods stood at £15,350.
