Storms highlight importance of home insurance
Millions of homeowners are unprepared for flood damage as Britain braces itself for a repeat of Monday's extreme weather conditions.
Yesterday the country was hit by storms with winds of up to 80mph and heavy rainfall, which has prompted by a slew of home insurance claims from homeowners who have suffered damage to their properties.
However, according to research from Sainsbury's Home Insurance, it is the plight of those who have no home insurance cover that is the real cause for concern.
The home insurance provider found that 1.78 million homeowners have no building insurance, and extrapolating this means that potentially thousands of those affected yesterday could find they are seriously out of pocket as a result of the storms.
Neil Laird, home insurance manager at Sainsbury's, said: "Thousands of homes could be at risk from storms this week so it's alarming to see so many without buildings insurance.
"The growing number of weather-related instances really highlights the importance of having adequate cover in this area and unlimited buildings cover ensures peace of mind that you won't be left underinsured should the unthinkable happen."
