Pensioners urged to claim credit
Pensioners who have not received their winter fuel payments have been advised to check they are not eligible for pension credit.
According to official figures, up to four in ten pensioners who are entitled to have their pensions topped up are failing to submit claims.
This is despite the fact that in so doing they could boost their income from the standard state pension sum of £87.30 per week to £119.05.
Citizens Advice Director of Policy Teresa Perchard said: "Too many pensioners are missing out on money that is rightfully theirs.
"Many don't know about things like council tax benefit, or think they won't qualify for help. But claiming can be simple, and pensioners can get a free, confidential benefits check at any Citizens Advice Bureau."
According to Citizens Advice men aged between 60 and 65 who are still working are those most likely to be entitled to unclaimed pension credit.
