Investors look to manage risk
Investors are likely to be diversifying their portfolio this year as a means of managing risk.
Edward Jones, a financial services provider, said diversification was a useful means of limiting exposure.
In the current economic climate, this is likely to be a top consideration for many investors.
"We believe constructing a well-diversified portfolio is one of the most important principles of investing and that it's particularly important for your Isa, pension scheme and other long-term investments," the firm said.
Stock markets around the world are still in the grip of the credit crunch with the full extent of the losses associated with the US sub-prime mortgage market not yet known.
The British economy is expected to slow this year, with Scottish Widows Investment Partners (SWIP) today predicting GDP growth of just 1.8 per cent.
