Hips poll shows positive result
Home information packs (Hips) have been well-received by the general public, according to a new poll.
An Ipsos MORI survey revealed that 72 per cent of sellers were happy with their Hip.
Furthermore, 79 per cent said the information pack contained everything they expected and 81 per cent said they understood it.
A third of buyers said they would act on the recommendations of the accompanying energy performance certificate.
"These results show that even some months ahead of the implementation of Hips across the country, consumers in a number of locations were already seeing the benefits of the new process," said Paul Broadhead, deputy director of the Association of Hip Providers (AHIPP).
"What is also clear is that property professionals did not engage fully with the process and many consumers did not see the Hip on their property.
"Had they done so the results would surely have been even better," he added.
Hips have been criticised for adding expense and additional bureaucracy to the house buying process.
Their proponents argue that they provide vital information to buyers and encourage better energy efficiency.
