esure: 'Storms highlight importance of home insurance'
The predicted rash of insurance claims from homeowners affected by today's storms has once again highlighted the importance of home insurance, it has been claimed.
Earlier today, coastal areas, the South West of England and areas of Wales were hit by gales that reached up to 80mph and heavy rainfall.
The latest deluges follow those that took place last summer, and suggest that the UK is becoming ever more prone to extreme weather conditions, according to Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure.
As a result, it is imperative that Britons pay more attention to their home insurance cover or risk financial ruin, he said.
Mr Pickard added: "There is no quick fix for flood damaged properties and the destructive power of water can turn lives upside down and damage personal belongings beyond repair.
"At times like these, homeowners can rely on their buildings and contents insurance to cover such 'acts of god' and be rest assured that they won't be faced with a huge repair or hotel bill."
