Young people are lax over credit card safety
Younger people are failing to guard against credit card fraud despite the rising tide of the crime, a new survey has revealed.
In a poll from Saga, it was found that just 12 per cent of 18-34 year-olds would object if their credit card was moved from their sight while they were paying for something.
Conversely, over 50s were far more vigilant, with 55 per cent of those polled saying they would question why this was necessary.
Meanwhile, of the 18-34 year olds who had fallen victim to fraud just 66 per cent said they had reported the mishap, compared with 78 per cent of over-50s.
Andrew Goodsell, chief executive of Saga, commented: "Our study shows a worrying trend that men and younger people are generally less concerned about ID fraud than their older counterparts, and are not taking the steps to prevent fraudulent activity.
"There are a number of reasons why this could be happening - the younger generation are obviously more gung-ho and do not think that this kind of thing will happen to them, and also if something does ensue, they may be relying on financial institutions to reimburse them."
