Nine million Brits have received incorrect energy bill
Millions of Britons have received incorrect gas and electricity bills over the last two years, a new survey has revealed.
In a poll conducted by uSwitch.com, 34 per cent of those polled said they have been billed incorrectly during this time - equating to around nine million people.
The survey also found that those affected had to wait an average of two months for the error to be corrected.
Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at uSwitch.com, commented: "I suspect that suppliers will continue to be haunted by this reputation for inaccurate bills until smart meters finally lay that ghost to rest - unfortunately that won't be for many years.
"In the meantime suppliers are trying to work with their customers to resolve the issues and tackle the root cause - discrepancies between estimated and actual readings - which can often leave households unexpectedly out of pocket."
Figures from energywatch showed that npower was subject of more complaints about its billing practices last year than any other energy company.
