Leave fee-charging cards at home when holidaying, advises site
A price comparison site has named the best and worst credit cards to cut costs when travelling overseas.
According to Fool.co.uk, the worst cards to use are those which charge an extra two per cent on overseas purchases, which mean that an extra £20 is added for every £1,000 spent.
However, latterly the number of cards which do not penalise holders for using them abroad has increased and it is these that can significantly cut the cost of holiday expenditure, advised David Kuo, head of personal finance at the site.
He said: "It started as a unique selling proposition for one credit-card provider, but cards that don't sting customers when they use them abroad have now grown to half a dozen.
"Charging customers for using their cards overseas is tantamount to being surcharged for using cutlery in a restaurant. It is preposterous. But it is pleasing to see six companies taking a stand against it."
Among the card providers that do not impose the charges are Goldfish, Abbey, Nationwide and the Post Office.
