Investors choose funds to diversify portfolios
UK investors choose funds because of the scope they offer to diversify their portfolio, it has been revealed.
In a poll conducted by Barclays Stockbrokers, 63 per cent of those surveyed said they opted to invest in a fund specifically to achieve a diversified portfolio.
Other reasons given were that investors preferred to have their money managed by experts, cited by 16 per cent of the sample, while ten per cent said they did so because they considered it easier than trading shares.
Chris Stevenson, associate director of the funds division of Barclays Stockbrokers, said: "In current market conditions it is encouraging that the priority for investors is diversification as this is key to generating good returns and ensuring their portfolios weather market storms.
"Funds are a great way for the more cautious investor to access a broad range of markets and sectors to suit their investment objectives."
