Insurer warns of theft risk at festivals
Pop fans are set to risk over millions of pounds worth of personal possessions at music festivals this year, according to a home insurance provider.
According to research from Zurich Insurance, the average value of items carried by people to festivals is £260.
Among the high value items being taken are mobile phones, cameras, memory cards, iPods and MP3 players (16 per cent).
However, despite the vulnerability of tents to thieves, 75 per cent of those attending had not taken out any insurance to cover them in the event of loss or accidents.
Mike Quinton, managing director for Direct & Partnerships at Zurich, said: "One in four British adults said they were planning on attending a festival this summer and it would be all too easy to get swept up in the summer spirit and forget to take even the simplest of precautions with their belongings.
"We urge all festival goers this summer to plan ahead, only take what they need to as well as checking their cover before they go."
