Insurer advises on home security
A price comparison site has issued a set of tips to homeowners to help them avoid being burgled while they are away on their summer holidays.
Simon Lamble, product director of Confused.com, drew particular attention to modern ways through which homeowners can be lax with security.
To this end, he warned of the danger of leaving tell-tale messages on social networking sites, which would alert potential thieves of the owner's absence.
Also recommended is that answer phone messages which are recorded to cover your absence do not make specific reference to the fact that you are away, while lowering the sound of a telephone so that it cannot be heard outside the house is prudent, too.
Finally, ensuring that home insurance cover is up to date is vital, according to Mr Lamble.
He advised: "Check your house or contents insurance policies: some policies may be invalidated if a property is left empty for a prolonged period of time.
"Before leaving to go on a lengthy holiday, it is wise to check the terms of the policy to make sure that the level of cover is sufficient."
