Home insurance firm reveals most common domestic mishaps
Millions of Britons have caused damage to their homes as a result of a mishap, a new survey has shown.
In a survey from home insurance provider Direct Line, participants were asked how they had caused damage to their homes through accidents in a bid to discover which accidents are most common.
The study found that 40 per cent of respondents have damaged furniture as the result of an accident.
Meanwhile, 30 per cent have spilt red wine on the carpet and 33 per cent have damaged ornaments.
Andrew Lowe of Direct Line said the findings highlighted the importance of having home insurance which provides cover in the event of accidental damage.
He commented: "We all accidentally damage contents in our homes at some point.
"While these items are often small objects such as crockery or ornaments, the cost and inconvenience of damaging something with sentimental and material value is extremely frustrating."
