High prices putting squeeze on pensions
The rising cost of living means that Britons are saving less for their retirement, a new survey has shown.
Research undertaken by financial services company Edward Jones found that 43 per cent of respondents are saving either "far less" or "a little less" for their retirement in the current economic climate.
The reason given for this was the impact of higher prices for petrol and in supermarkets.
Andrew James, retirement planning manager at Edward Jones, said: "It's a big concern that the research shows people of all ages and social classes are cutting back saving for retirement in order to pay for essentials.
"If this trend continues then we are just storing up even more problems for the future."
Edward Jones' poll also found that 23 per cent of those surveyed had yet to start saving for their retirement at all.
