Fearful Brits stashing money under mattresses
A significant proportion of the country has been so concerned by economic uncertainty that they are opting to stash their money under their mattress, a new survey has shown.
In a poll conducted by MGM Advantage, both rich and poor consumers confessed that they would favour keeping their savings under their bed.
One quarter of those with assets of £1 million or more said they would rather use the Bank of Mattress, while one in five people in debt said the same.
The crunch has also dented confidence among potential stock market investors, with just six per cent of respondents keen to dabble in the markets.
Meanwhile, just 12 per cent say they will be considering the UK property sector.
The fears are in turn fuelling a rise in popularity of savings accounts, the majority of the sample (55 per cent) identifying these as the location for their money.
