British men are the real Beale
Eastenders fixture and all round miser Ian Beale is the fictional character most men identify with when it comes to their approach to finances, a survey has revealed.
In a poll conducted by Scottish Widows, the chip shop owning small businessman was cited as the character who most resonated with men despite his niggardly approach.
Conversely, women were more likely to identify with Honey Mitchell from the same show, whose financial situation lurches from one crisis to another.
Other characters who picked up significant amounts of votes among women were the extravagant Carrie Bradshaw of Sex and the City-fame and the debt-stricken Queen Vic owner Peggy Mitchell.
The poll's results are reflective of a difference in approach to finances uncovered by the survey, which found that 20 per cent of men consider themselves as 'tight' or 'careful' with money and thus are more inclined to save cash than spend it.
Meanwhile, 17 per cent of women said that they are 'always short of money' due to profligate spending.
