Tips to beat energy bill hikes
A price comparison site has issued expert advice to help consumers limit the impact of soaring energy prices.
Gareth Kloet, energy expert at Confused.com, has suggested a range of ways that Britons can reduce their bills in the wake of double digit increases to gas and electricity this year, with further hikes expected before the end of 2008.
Chief among Mr Kloet's tips is that people consider switching their supplier to secure amore favourable tariff or swapping for a cheaper deal with the same supplier.
Also recommended is looking to cap your fuel costs with your supplier, which is especially apt for those who need "some consistency" in their monthly spending.
Finally, checking the energy usage of electrical appliances around the home and considering a model that is cheaper to run is also prudent, he said.
The site claims that by switching to the best deal available, the average customer, who has never before switched energy suppliers or tariffs, can make a saving of £284.62.
