Savers urged to choose account tailored to their needs
Consumers have been urged to consider their approach to their finances before choosing a savings account.
Helen Cook, head of savings at Sainsbury's Finance, said that this is the most important thing to take this into account when choosing a savings offering, with factors such as how often they currently dip into savings and how much they deposit among the being key considerations.
Also relevant, according to Ms Cook, is the likelihood that despite good intentions many savers who harbour good intentions to swap provider regularly to take advantage of good rates fail to make good on their plans.
As a result, they will be often left with an account that does not make the most of their money.
She concluded: " I think there's a 'buyer beware' message and there's also a 'know thyself' message, so even though you think you're going to be very sensible and shift amongst rates, actually, most people don't.
"People need to know whether or not they're the sort that will."
