Millions set to work past retirement age
More and more Britons are considering working past retirement age due to a lack of financial planning, it has been revealed.
According to figures from life insurer Zurich, 64 per cent of Britons are currently mulling continuing to work once they have passed the official age of retirement.
Of these, 32 per cent said they are being forced to consider this option due to financial reasons.
It is thought that a contributory factor behind the trend is failure to plan ahead financially - an assertion seemingly borne out by Zurich's finding that 74 per cent of the sample had never sought advice on planning for life when they give up work.
Tony Solomon, business development director, Zurich UK Life, commented: "If we fail to address this issue, there is a real danger that for those already enjoying their retirement, may be last generation to experience the financial freedom of a carefree retirement spent living off the children's inheritance."
