Homeowners warned to insure garden contents
Homeowners have been urged to ensure their garden contents are adequately covered by their home insurance.
Defaqto, issued the advice to consumers, after research conducted by the company showed that 38 per cent of policies provide just £500 or less of cover for garden contents.
Meanwhile, 47 per cent entitle homeowners to between £750 and £1,000 and 15 per cent provide more than £1,000.
Mike Powell, a consultant for general insurance at Defaqto, said: "The cost to replace some of the items kept in the garden for example, following a theft could run into hundreds of pounds.
"Consumers do not always consider the true value of their garden and should take care to understand the extent of the cover on offer."
The value of the average garden contents has increased in recent years as a result of home improvers adding items such as water features, outdoors lights and gas barbecues to their outside space.
