Economy hits Brits' saving targets
Fewer and fewer Britons consider saving a priority in the face of the UK's economic prospects, it has been discovered.
According to research from Nationwide, just 25 per cent of those polled consider saving "important".
The poll also found that just 46 per cent of those quizzed are saving regularly, with 33 per cent able to save money occasionally.
Meanwhile, 20 per cent admitted that they are not able to put anything aside at all.
Matthew Carter, director for savings at Nationwide, said: "Our latest research on consumers' propensity to save is concerning. A sharp decrease has been seen in the store people put on saving and, if this decline continues, there will be trouble ahead if consumers do not put money aside.
"The increasing cost of living is clearly having an impact on household finances and consumers are prioritising bills over their savings."
