Eco-devices could cut UK gas bill by £4.6bn
The nation could slash its collective gas bill by £4.6 billion per year through energy saving devices, according to British Gas.
The utility giant based its claim on savings made so far by participants in its Green Streets scheme, which has seen many households cut their gas usage in half.
Green Streets provided families with a budget of £30,000 per household for the scheme, which they were to spend on energy-saving devices such as new boilers and solar panels.
Among the other notable achievements of the scheme, which has been running for five months, has been cutting emissions by a fifth.
Phil Bentley, managing director of British Gas, said: "For every £3 we spend heating our homes £1 is wasted because of poor insulation.
"And whilst strict standards on new build are needed, most of the energy being consumed is in the ageing homes we live in today.
"It is making these changes in these properties that will give us the biggest carbon emission reductions."
