Those who don't belt up 'could end up cash-strapped'
UK drivers could benefit from a reminder about the need to wear seatbelts while on the road, one personal finance firm has stated.
Price comparisons service moneysupermarket.com has warned motorists that those who fail to wear their belts will be unlikely to receive help with money from their insurer should they have an accident.
According to the firm, a quarter of UK drivers admit to having been on the road without buckling their belt.
While almost four in ten say that they simply forgot, more than one in ten said that they found the belts too restrictive or didn't believe that they would have a crash.
Peter Gerrard, head of insurance research moneysupermarket.com, said: "As well as being a lifesaver, a seatbelt can be an extra precaution for your finances, helping ensure insurance claims are paid out and you don't get a £500 fine."
The money news complements that from Sainsbury's Car Insurance in September last year that revealed 2.813 million people admitted to driving without a seatbelt in July.
