Premiums on home buildings insurance 'increasing'
The premiums on home buildings insurance are continuing their upward trend, according to the AA's latest quarterly insurance index.
Average quoted premiums for home buildings insurance rose by 1.4 per cent in the last quarter to an annual £218.60, which follows a three per cent rise in the preceding 12 months.
However, the Shoparound premium, which is the average of the lowest three quotes, fell by 1.1 per cent to £144.07, which is good news for those making finance comparisons.
John Close, insurer relations director at the AA, said that buildings insurance premiums are at their highest since the index began, but remarked that the serious flood damage last summer could have made them much higher.
"I hope that the government's climate change bill includes robust provisions to ensure that new buildings are more flood and storm resilient," he added.
According to consultancy firm Consumer Intelligence, homebuyers are becoming increasingly sensitive to rises in home buildings insurance and are likely to swap providers on a more regular basis this year.
