Poor weather 'causes hike in insurance claims'
British weather has helped boost the number of claims made in the last three years on home insurance policies, an insurer suggests.
There was a ten per cent increase to more than £3 billion in the value of claims for home damage between 2004 and 2006, Sainsbury's Home Insurance claimed.
In addition, the floods of last summer cost £3 billion on their own but some households could find themselves under-insured.
Steve Johnson, head of Sainsbury's Home Insurance, also added there were things house owners could do to minimise their losses, such as planning how to protect furniture and keeping sandbags handy.
"Some home buildings policies work on a sum-insured basis rather than offering unlimited cover.
"We believe unlimited buildings cover gives homeowners greater piece of mind."
In other money news, motorists have been issued with advice on driving in poor weather.
More Than suggested driver's should check things like anti-freeze levels and carrying de-icer, as well as not leaving cars warming up unattended, to guard against personal finance problems like accidents or theft.
