Pension funds 'are diversifying investments'
Pensions schemes are continuing to diversify the range of assets in which they invest to provide help with money for retirees, it has been claimed.
According to the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF), a survey of 307 defined benefit pension schemes has revealed that the types of investments being invested in is also veering towards safer options.
For instance, 47 per cent of respondents stated that they had reduced the proportion of allocations earmarked for equities over the last year.
Meanwhile, 34 per cent stated that they had increased the amount devoted to fixed-interest investments.
Joanne Segars, NAPF chief executive, said: "With growing scrutiny and pressure on pension scheme trustees to make sure there is a balance between risk and return, the survey shows they are increasingly viewing diversification as normal practice."
Recently, NAPF welcomed the resolution of problems associated with the Financial Assistance Scheme, which mean that pensioners who lost money due to collapsing schemes in recent years are set to receive compensation.
