Niche markets 'not a hideaway' from financial turmoil
Although the financial sector is in some turmoil at the moment, investing in niche markets is not a sensible way of avoiding the onslaught for those seeking less risky help with money, it has been claimed.
Personal financial advice firm Bloomsbury Financial Planning states that markets such as wine and antiques are not appropriate means of protecting against fluctuations in the markets.
Rather, those seeking help with finance on the stock markets should develop a portfolio which takes into account one of the basic tenets of capitalism - that investments values will go up as well as down.
Jason Butler, partner at Bloomsbury Financial Planning, said: "One thing I would suggest people invest in if they don't want to go into the whole thought process of what risks they can cope with is National Savings certificates."
He explained that the advantages were a return of over one per cent, without any tax or risk involved - and with the guarantee of the original investment returned.
According to National Savings & Investments, fixed-interest savings certificates are lump-sum investments the returns on which are free of both income tax and capital gains tax.
