Mortgage market 'would benefit from European integration'
Increased integration of different mortgage markets across Europe would be beneficial to the industry as a whole, it has been claimed.
Specialist personal finance services provider Savills Private Finance states that while such a move would be of benefit to all concerned, implementing such a change would be difficult to achieve.
Miranda John, international manager for Savills Private Finance, said: "I don't think there's a lack of agreement about [the need for] regulation - but culturally, all the countries have something different in mind when using that phrase."
She added that rules set down by the Financial Services Authority to provide help with money advice to UK buy-to-let landlords did not necessarily have equivalents on the continent.
The finance news comes in the wake of a white paper from the European commission proposing measures intended to increase integration in mortgage markets.
Problems identified by a report from the commission included low consumer confidence, limited product diversity and obstacles to cross-border supply of credit.
