Mobile cash-back deals 'have been problematic'
Mobile contracts that entail a cash-back element have proven to be problematic for British phone users for a variety of reasons, according to Consumer Direct.
Cash-back deals claim to give customers a chance to have some of their monthly charges returned at certain times of the year, but in many cases, even if the relevant terms are fulfilled, consumers have found themselves out of pocket, the organisation suggests.
For many people the issue could worsen their trouble with debt and Consumer Direct cites "very onerous" procedures relating to the claiming of cash-back from mobile phone firms as being part of the problem.
"One of the big problems that consumers have been complaining about over the past year is cash-back offers," said Frank Shepherd, spokesperson for Consumer Direct.
"Particularly in relation to cash back deals, be aware that a lot of people have had problems," he added.
In light of the personal finance problems experienced by UK phone users as a result of the cash-back offers made available, the consumer group Which? called for such deals to be banned altogether last year.
